Weekly Blog post
This week was alright. Something that frustrated me this week was starting to diet :'(. Something that made me happy this week was that I actually feel a lot better now that I've started to eat only healthy food, and exercising. Something that I have learned this week is that even if I get all the answers right on a review sheet, I will always score low on math tests, I don't understand it. Something that I'd like to learn in the future is how to better myself in math and how to stop my mind from wandering during class. Here's a cool link :http://youtu.be/k_kIyihNd-A it's a short film, i thought it was very touching, and really shocking at 3:18 - 4:00, wasn't expecting that, mind blown, but i don't really understand the ending.

10 common elements
One thing I learned from this article is that good scripts usually have a second problem that the hero has to solve, usually inner problems. Another thing I learned from the article is that a Strong Opening is also a common part of a well written script. I also learned that another common element of award winning screenplays is a good blend of multiple Genres of film such as action/adventure or romance/comedy. Something I liked about this article is that it gave a lot of good tips on how to make a movie with a plot thats not boring. Another thing I liked was that it brought up the hidden message technique that i've noticed in a lot of good movies. A question I have about this article is what are some more common elements of award winning screenplays?

5 things to learn about editing
Something that I learned from this article is that parts of Elf were taken out by the editor to keep the tone of innocence alive in the film. Another thing I learned from the article is that to be an editor you need to be good at storytelling, not just editing and putting clips together. I also learned that you have to maintain a good attitude to be successful as an editor. Something that I didnt like about this article is that they swear in the end, I just feel like it's sort of unprofessional. Something that I liked about this article is that it shows how other elements of a movie can make it successful, like how he expected The Hangover to not be successful because of the editing, but it ended up the very opposite. A question I have about the article is why does the author use Quotes to name a film in the beginning but then italics the rest of the article.
This week
This week was pretty terrible. Something that I learned this week was how to use Adobe after effects through exercises. Something that I would like to learn in the future is how to balance school, homework, exercising, and work, while having time to play drums, and do other activities so I dont kill myself with stress. Something that frustrated me this week was being assigned large assignments from 3 different classes all at the same time like always. Something that made me happy this week is that I'm attending the NT Winter Dance. Here's a cool link http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/quentin-tarantinos-next-movie-director-660518 it's talking about Quentin Tarantino's next film and how he gave little bits of information about it on "The Tonight Show"

5 Essentials of animated creatures
Something that I learned from this article is that most, if not all animated movies contain some sort of creature in them. Another thing I learned from the article is that when you make a creature animation you should try to incorporate human like features with animal like features mixed in. I also learned that for the motion of a creature, you should pay attention to the weight of the animal, and base its movements by that. A thing I liked about this article were the image and clip examples of the essentials of animating creatures. Another thing I liked about this article was that it wasn't boring, it was actually very interesting. A question I have about this article is why are animals so damn cool?
Frozen
Something that I learned from this article is that the making of Frozen has been in consideration of disney since the 1940's. Another thing I learned is that making the film's story was very challenging to the directors. I also learned that the film is set in Norway. Something that I liked about the article is that it included pictures from the movie showing how nice the visuals are. I also liked that the article wasn't very long and was sort of right to the point. A question I have on the article is do disney's animation studios use the same programs and technology as pixar does?

Get A horse!
Something that I learned from this article is that nobody has ever made an animation in present day that gave the audience a feeling that it was made in the past until Disney made "Get a Horse". Another Thing I learned from this article is that furniture makers beat furniture with chains to give it an antique look? that's, strange.... Stop abusing furniture. I also learned that the animators of "Get A Horse" deliberately inserted mistakes into frames of the animation to give it an Authentic "Antique" feeling. A thing I liked about this article is that it was about a new disney short that they're going to try something new in, Like what they did with the "Paperman" short last year with the cross 2d/3d animation. Another thing I liked was that the article included pictures to give you an idea of what they're doing in the animation . A question that I have about the article is, has disney been doing crazy, never before done stuff in all their animated shorts for a while? or has it just been the last two?
VFX Jobs
Something that I learned from this article is that almost no VFX worker will land a job at a Major studio right out of college. Another thing I learned is that When you usually start out working for a VFX company at first, you will get the entry level positions such as Render wrangler, runner/pa, etc. I also learned that animators/VFX employees agree that you definitely shouldn't go into this line of work just for the money. Something I liked about this article is that it was relatable, I guess. Another thing that I liked about this article is that it had a lot of information about the career of a VFX worker. A question I have about the article is did the make up "VFX"? I've never seen that acronym used before in my life.
This week
This week was miserable. Something that made me happy this week is that the Xbox One comes out next week. Some things that frustrated me this week were being behind on my documentary, having tons of math homework, not being able to finish a math test, not being able to work on the documentary at all over the weekend because of technical problems, staying up all night because I can't sleep, and more! Fun Wow! Something I learned this week is that nothing ever works out for me. Something I'd like to learn in the future is how to plan ahead. heres a cool article http://www.vulture.com/2013/11/4-movie-special-effects-that-still-dont-look-right.html, its talking about special effects in movies that were done wrong, I saw a couple of them, and i especially noticed the breath one. I think that the part from "X-Men Orgins: Wolverine" where Wolverine is in the bathroom of the old guy's house playing with his claws should have been entered in there, man did that look fake.

ZOMBIES!
Something that I learned from this article is that zombies have been around since 1932. Another thing I learned is that people believe that George A. Romero's depiction of zombies is a Criticism on capitalism. I also learned that people believe zombies could also be a symbol for conformity. Something I liked about this article is that it was about zombie movies. Another thing I liked is that the article answered a great question, Why do we love zombies so much? A question I have on the article is Are there too many zombie movies?
Pretty Animated Girls
Something that I learned from this article is that Lino Disalvo, head animator for the new disney movie "Frozen" caused some uproar after saying that Female characters in animation have to be "pretty." Another thing I learned is that Repunzel from the recent animated disney film "Tangled" looks alot like the female characters from "Frozen". I also learned that Brenda Chapman, creator and Co- Director of the pixar movie "Brave" was appaled by Disalvo's statement, especially after just having a fight with disney about the "Pretty" remake of Merida from "Brave." Something that I liked about this article is that it points out alot of stereotypes that I feel Disney and other companies push on people about girls in movies and animation having to be pretty. Another thing I liked about this article is that it shows a gif made with pictures of the characters from "Frozen" and Repunzel from "Tangled" and it shows that the characters look almost exactly identical. A question I have about this article is What gave Lino Disalvo this idea that the girls have to be "Pretty"?
This week.
This Week I learned about transitions and effects in adobe premier. Something I would like to learn in the future is how to make special effects in Adobe After Effects. Something that made me happy this week was having a shorter week. Something that frustrated me this week was trying to understand the curriculum in trig. Here's an article about FLAC and Mp3 format songs, http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57530837-221/what-is-flac-the-high-def-mp3-explained/ I thought that this article was interesting and had a lot of relevant information.

storyboarding tips
Something I learned from this article is that when your making storyboards you should think in a 3- dimensional perspective. Another thing I learned is another helpful storyboarding tip, use grids, using grids will help you get more control of the perspective. I also learned to label characters when dealing with more than one in a single shot, this will help stop confusion with differentiating the characters from one another. A thing I liked about this article is that it contains a bunch of really helpful tips to storyboarding that I have never thought of. Another thing I like about the article is that it contains pictures of storyboard examples to help you understand what they mean in the writing. A question I have about this article is who thought of storyboards in the first place?
Walt n' Jim
Something that I learned from this article is that Jim Henson died from a rare bacteria. Another thing I learned is that Jim Henson had a small company mindset, unlike Walt Disney who (as you can tell) wanted to expand and become a media marvel. I also learned that both Walt and Jim were influenced by fairy tales they were exposed to when they were young. A thing I liked about this article was that it had a pretty good amount of information to compare and contrast Walt Disney and Jim Henson. Another thing I liked was that the article was separated into different sections, rather than big, long paragraphs. A question I have about the article is were Walt and Jim friends?
This week
This week was okay. I learned about morphing images together through the "Worth 1000" project. Something I want to learn in the future is how to be better at photoshop. Something that made me happy this week was talking to my mom about getting my license and a car. Something that frustrated me this week was having an essay on something that I cant really write about, and realizing how close all the deadlines for college applications are. Here's a cool link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clnozSXyF4k This video made me realize how many things ive seen in movies that were probably just greenscreened, wow what a cool, yet sort of simple technology!

Emotion Manipulation with music
Something I learned from this article is that certain noises can give a person a certain emotion. I also learned that it's believed that the fear people felt while watching "Paranormal Activity" was caused by the use of low frequency sound waves. Something I liked about this article is that it was interesting. Another thing I liked about the article is that it showed how important music is in a movie. A question I have about this article is what do they mean by " back to when our prehistoric selves will have heard a twig snap in a forest and thought 'that's it, I'm dead'?
Chipotle Scarecrow
Something I learned is that the video in the article has angered many people in the food processing business.(Understandable) Another thing I learned is that the video hasnt even been aired on television. I also learned that the video isnt really an ad, but more like a narrative. I also learned that Chipotle wants to gain customers by reaching people who agree with their anti-processed food approach. A thing I liked about this article is that its about chipotle.(Their food is so good.) Another thing I like is that the video is animated. A question I have about the article is why is there an article on the video?

Low Budget Visual Effects
A thing I learned from this article is that the COTOPOXI boat (That appears to be huge) in "Close Encounters of The Third Kind" was actually a 20-foot model and the actors were just placed a quarter mile away. Another Thing I learned is that the "Imperial Sand Dunes" from Star Wars Episode VI were actually just dunes in Southern California (Not Surprised). I also Learned that the author of the blog post used the same "Forced Perspective" technique in his own movie "The Grind" to put a humvee in the desert. A thing I liked about this article is that it gives you a useful way to make a low cost visual effect. I also liked that the author included videos of the effect in action. A question I have about this article is why does everyone do this effect in the dessert?
Too Many Animated Movies
A thing I learned from this article is that there are too many animated movies coming out or already out.
Another thing I learned is that DreamWorks had to lay off people because of the money lost from "Rise of The Guardians." A thing I liked about this article is that it shows how more creativity is needed for movies to be successful. I also learned that it took Petrov 2 and a half years to make his old man and the sea animation. A thing I liked about this article is that the animation was really cool. Another thing I liked about this article is that it shows how dedicated some animators are to their work. A question I have about this article is Why havent I heard about this short before??
Class Evaluation
1. In general, what did you like most about this class?
The thing that I liked most about the class is that i finally got to learn how to make animations. I have always wanted to learn how to make my own cartoons and animations since i was very young. I really enjoyed the curriculum and just everything about the class was honestly perfect. I also liked that the class made me a more mature person when it comes to work. I loved that the course was reasonably challenging and demanding. I also loved that I learned so much, Not only about Animation, but also design and text as well. Just everything, from the people to the projects made the class very enjoyable and defiantly worth the while.
2. In general, what did you like least about this class?
Defiantly the project deadlines, But honestly, its not something that needs to be changed. The only reason I didn't like them is because sometimes they interfered with other school projects, But Hey, Thats life, and I'm glad that I had to struggle with them because they taught me to become less lazy, and to work harder than before.
3. What were your most favorite project and least favorite project and why?
My Favorite project was probably the Final animation, I really liked the songs that were provided and the fact that we could do it anyway we wanted to. I really enjoyed the project and the thing I liked the most about it was seeing how much progress everyone (Including myself) made since the beginning of the year. My Least favorite project was probably the Rotoball Project. This is because it was very time consuming and there was just something about it that i didnt like that i cant put a finger on. ( I guess it just didnt really click?) But I liked learning about the Rotoscoping and how that was done!
4. Do you feel that this class will help you achieve your future academic or career goals? How or why (or why not)?
I feel that this class will defiantly help me in both my future academic and career goals because
it has taught me to be more into my work than ever before. I think that it has taught me that to get anywhere in life i defiantly cant slack off no matter what.
5. Additional comments:
I really enjoyed my year in the class, And I think that anyone with any interest in the animation field would love this class. Im really glad that i made the choice to join the class even though at times projects drove me crazy. Im looking forward to next year's film class.

A thing I liked about this article is that it shows how people will not allow their work to be re created in ways that basically destroy the whole character. Another thing i liked is that it shows another stupid move that disney has made.(still not as stupid as all the child sitcoms on disney channel.) A question I have is, Disney, just, why? Why do you do so much stupid stuff, Please, Walt would cry if he saw the crap you're doing today.

A thing I liked about this article is that it showed how mathematics made huge advancements in animation. Another thing I liked was the pictures included in the article. A question I have about the article is, Do I really have to be amazing at math to be successful in animation or game design?
This Week.
This week was okay, A thing I learned this week is that english class is horrible, i learned this from the amount of tedious work that was given to me by my english teacher. Something that frustrated me this week was being behind in alot of my classes from being sick for a few days. Just my luck that id get sick at the moment when I really cant miss school. Something that made me happy this week was finishing my 3D short! Something that id like to learn in the future is animating stuff like hair, water, and explosions in 3D, you know, advanced stuff. Here's a cool link, Okay i know the song is corny, REALLY CORNY, and let me just tell you that no, i dont listen to this stuff. But I came across this video when i was procrastinating my english paper and exploring the internet, http://youtu.be/OJWJE0x7T4Q anyway its a music video and its done with stop motion and claymation, and honestly (for its age) its pretty cool and well done!

Indian Special Effects.
A thing I learned from this article is that some people are outsourcing their visual effects jobs to other countries such as China and India. Another thing I learned is that some workers at a studio in india work without pay for 4 months. I also Learned that another studio reduced their staff from 150 people to 5. A thing I liked about this article is that it clearly showed how the visual effect companies seem to be going downhill. Another thing I liked about this article is that it showed how you should be thankful you live in the US and that theres all those payment regulations and laws and what not. A question I have about the article is why are all these companies dying?

Another thing that I learned is that the studio that made the visual effects for the movie is now facing bankruptcy. A thing I liked about this article is that it shows how sad it is that a company that did such a great job on a movie is now failing. This week was okay, a thing that frustrated me this week was trying to create my idea for my 3D short in cheetah, another thing that frustrated me this week was trying to set up lighting correctly. Something that I learned this week was that cheetah 3D is more time consuming then you think and takes FOREVER to render. Something I would like to learn in the future is how to use the "Rigid Body" tag or whatever it may be called, and those other tags we also did not learn much about. here's a cool link:
http://youtu.be/VD7Nry_3QTo it's a 3d short of some robots playing soccer. I thought it was crazy and cool, the animation is so well done. o_o

A thing I liked about this article is that it showed how making a tv show is different from making a movie. Another thing I like about the article is that it uses two prime examples of successful movie directors that started out making Tv Shows. A question I have about this article is if directing tv shows is so much different than movies, then why did the companies hire these people to direct in the first place?

Paperman
This article was about a Disney short "Paperman" I learned that the short took a new approach to animation by trying to make a 2D/3D animation hybrid, and that it worked. I also learned that John Kahrs, the director of the short, worked at pixar before working for Walt Disney Animations Studios. Another thing that I learned from the article is that they had to go to Brian Whited to find the software to make the 2D/3D hybrid a possibility. A thing I like about this article is that it provided enough information about the short. Another thing I liked about the article is that it told the processes used to make the short, such as Silhouette Ribbons. A question I have about the article is; are there going to be movies made in the future using this style of animation?
Quentin Tarantino
This article was about 6 Filmmaking tips from Quentin Tarantino. A thing I learned from this article is that Quentin Tarantino lied alot to get into show business, and said that he acted in a lot of movies that he didnt. I also learned that he said that he was in "Dawn of The Dead" when he wasnt. Another thing I learned is that Tarantino often puts metaphors for personal problems in his films. A thing I liked about this article is that it was about Quentin Tarantino, probably one of my favorite Directors and writers in the film industry. A thing I didnt like about the article is that it seems to lack something that the other "Filmmaking tips" articles didn't. A question I have about the article is if Quentin Tarantino is insane or not.

Escape From Tomorrow
This article was about a new independent Film "Escape From Tomorrow." A thing I learned from this article is that the entire film was filmed in Disney theme parks in Florida, and California. Another thing I learned is that the crew was not given permission to film the movie in the parks, which makes them liable to copyright charges from disney. I also learned that the crew only entered the parks in small groups to avoid attention and suspicion. A thing I like about this article is that it talks about a very original film idea. Another thing I like about this article is that it talks about the copyright dangers that the creators of this film took. A question I have about the article is did they ever get into any trouble with disney for filming this?
Disney's skylanders
This article was about Disney's new up and coming video game, Disney Infinity. A thing I learned from this article is that the game has the same concept of Skylanders, with the physical figures that you put on a platform which brings them into the game. Another Thing I learned from the article is that each character has its own game attached to it called a "Playset" each playset is set in the character's world. I also learned that the game features a mode called "Toybox" where characters can build worlds and play with their friends. A thing I like about this article is that Disney is finally making a (Some what) original game, not just a licensed game set around a single movie. Another thing I like about the article is that it explains that Disney is trying to compete with Skylanders and Minecraft with this games release. A question I have about the article is Does each "Playset" have to be downloaded off the internet before playing?

2D better than 3D
In this article, a critic explains how he feels about 3D film, and how traditional 2D films are better. A thing I learned from this article is that some people think that 3D films make a movie look fake. I also learned that some people prefer real scenery over computer generated scenery. Another thing I learned is that people also dont like it when an actor/actresses face has too much work done on it. A thing I like about this article is that it shows how people react differently to obviously fake objects and special effects in films, when compared to real ones. Another thing I like about this article is that it tells you why people dont like a lot of movies that are being made for 3D. A question I have about this article is why does this critic seem so negative about everything?

Another Thing I like about the article is that it warns you of overused short film plots, and warns you away from them. A question I have about the article is why do short films have a different set of rules when compared to full-length films?
